Homeowners' pick for appliance repair across the West
Deciding a Dishwasher's Fate
A dishwasher that won't drain or leaves dishes gritty is usually a repairable machine, and we can tell you which one you have. The question of whether it's worth fixing is a fair one to ask while you're standing there looking at it. Some dishwashers have another decade of quiet work in them. Others are done, and they'll show you why. Here's how we sort one from the other.

Age tells you a lot, but not everything
Most dishwashers run somewhere between ten and fifteen years. Under eight years old, a repair usually makes plain sense, since the tub, the racks, and the pump housing still have life left. Past twelve years we look harder at what else is worn. Rust at the bottom of the tub, a door seal gone stiff, racks with bare tines scraping plates, those all point to a machine aging together rather than one bad part. Here in Idaho and across the mountain states, hard well water speeds that up. Mineral scale builds on heaters and spray arms. A ten-year-old machine on well water can look older inside than the calendar says.
The fault type matters more than the age
Some failures are simple and common. A clogged drain hose, a worn door latch, a leaking inlet valve, a drain pump with a shard of glass jammed in the impeller, or a control board that lost one function. Those are contained problems. Fix the part and the rest of the machine keeps going. Other failures reach further: a cracked tub, a leak that soaked the cabinet floor and the insulation, a wash motor that seized and took the control with it. When two or three big components fail at once, the machine is telling you something. We name the fault plainly so you're deciding with real information instead of a guess.
Can we still get the part?
Parts availability quietly decides a lot of these calls. Common models from the last decade have pumps, valves, latches, and racks sitting on the shelf. Older or discontinued models are another story. A control board for a fifteen-year-old machine may be back-ordered with no date, or only available used. We check before we promise anything. If the part is gone, then a repair is really just a wait with no end, and we'd rather tell you that on the first visit. Sometimes a substitute or updated part number works fine, and we'll say so. Sometimes there's nothing, and replacement is the only honest answer left.
How we think it through during the visit
We start with what you saw and heard. When did it stop working? Any water on the floor? Any noise before it quit? Then we run a cycle and watch. We check the drain, the spray arms, the filter, the seal, and the fill, and we test what can be tested. Once we know the actual fault, we lay it out: here's the part, here's how the rest of the machine looks, here's how long that part takes to arrive. Then you choose. We don't push either direction. Working unhurried is the point, because a rushed diagnosis is usually a wrong one, and wrong costs you money.
Honest cases where replacing wins
Replacement makes sense when the tub is cracked or rusted through, or when a major leak has already damaged the cabinet or subfloor. It makes sense when the wash motor and the control both failed, and when the part is discontinued with no substitute. Same goes for a machine past twelve years old that's been fixed twice already and now shows a third unrelated fault. There's also the quiet case: a very old unit that never cleaned well, uses far more water than current models, and rattles the whole kitchen. Fixing it hands you back the same disappointing machine. We'll say so. If that's where you land, call us and we'll at least tell you plainly what we found.
Deciding a Dishwasher's Fate — fast answers
My dishwasher leaves white film on everything. Is that a repair?
Usually not. White film is typically hard water mineral scale, which is common on well water across the region. Rinse aid, a hotter fill, and a descaling cycle often clear it up. If dishes still come out gritty, the spray arms or the filter may be blocked.
Is it worth repairing a dishwasher over ten years old?
It depends on the fault. A drain pump, a latch, or an inlet valve on a ten-year-old machine is often worth doing. A cracked tub, or a failed motor along with the control at that age, usually isn't. We'll tell you which one you're looking at.
Water sits in the bottom after every cycle. What should I check?
Pull the bottom rack and lift out the filter basket if yours comes out by hand, then clear the food debris. Check that the drain hose under the sink isn't kinked. If water still stands after that, the drain pump likely needs service.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call us or fill out the form and describe what you hear, smell, or see. A noise, a leak, an error code, the smell of something burning. Small details help us load the right parts on the van before we head out.
- Step 2
We come look
A technician comes to your home and tests the machine instead of guessing at it. You'll hear what failed, what the fix takes, and what we'd do if this were our own kitchen.
- Step 3
Repair and check
A lot of parts ride with us, so common failures get handled on the same visit. Harder parts we order in. Then we run the appliance through a cycle and make sure the problem is actually gone.

Why homeowners call us
- Western conditions, plainlyHard well water scales up dishwasher jets and water heater lines. Summer heat leans on refrigerator compressors. Cold garages freeze washer valves in winter. We see those patterns weekly, so we check for them before chasing something exotic.
- Brand independentWe aren't tied to any manufacturer. That means we work on the mixed lineup most homes actually have: one brand of range, another brand of laundry, a fridge somebody bought used. Same technician, same visit.
- Steady, not rushedRushing is how a diagnosis goes wrong. We take the time to pull the panel, test the part, and read the board. And if a repair doesn't make sense for the age of the machine, we'll say so out loud.
- Straight schedulingYou get a real appointment window and a heads-up when the technician is on the way. Rural addresses and long mountain driveways are normal for us. Tell us about the gate or the gravel and we'll plan for it.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and the rest.
- Straight answersSome machines aren't worth the part, and we say so before you spend anything.
